The easiest way to choose colors for your quilts

by admin

Sometimes, choosing colors for our next quilt seems overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be!
Here is an easy way to select colors for a successful color palette.

Find inspiration on specialized website sites, like Design Seeds.
We, quilters, love colors and I am sure you could spend hours on this website, admiring color palettes and choosing the best one for your next project.

As you can see, each color palette includes six colors.
Choose a favorite one, grab your box with fabrics and select the ones that match best the suggested colors.

If you don’t have the exact colors, use something similar.

If you want more variation, add different shades (darker and lighter variations) of some of your colors (if you need a little help with color theory, here is an article with good explanations).

Below you can see 4 different colorways of the same design; I used colors suggested by 4 color palettes from Design Seeds.

And to see that this really works, what do you think about the color palettes used for these quilts? I chose them following the advice above.

I see it made as applique (raw edge applique is my favorite applique technique). The design measures 16” and the exterior circle measures 20”.

You could make one block for a pretty round quilt or more blocks for a table runner.
